Linda Dumont

Linda Dumont is an artist with a fresh style. Just as Linda herself, her art is graceful, bold, and bright. Her brush strokes and colors have a movement and vibration which bring her paintings to life.

Biography In a career that has spanned 30 years, Dumont’s work is owned by business, government and private art collectors in 22 states and several countries. Here in Texas, one can find her abstracts at Motorola, Austin Ventures, Deloitte Consulting and at the McAllen International Museum, among other sites. Her unique interpretations of downtown Austin and Houston, the Texas State House, the Alamo, and the Astros' Enron Field can be seen at a growing number of installations in Austin and elsewhere.

Dumont has been based in Austin since 1984. She is a graduate of the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. She also trained at Moore College of Art in Philadelphia. Her work has been in several national and regional juried art exhibitions and has been included in group shows in Massachusetts and Texas. She is also represented in several prestigious corporate collections around the country.

Statement Creating Art feeds my soul and has been the focus of my life for the past 30 years. Creating is not always easy, but the process gives me a grand sense of accomplishment when completed. Where painting takes me is a wonderful mystery that I hope to share with the viewer, even if the viewer only sees the end result. Each new work is inspired by my inner landscape, using all my senses, includes a history of landscapes and portraits, and my own fantasy world. When I create commissioned paintings I weave my clients views with my own. Together we create something new, which, in turn, becomes the inspiration for future works. I want the viewer to feel the paint and emotion through color, shape, and composition. Once the initial idea is completed, I challenge my art to create beyond the original thought process in to new territory.

The artist Helen Frankenthaler has been my greatest influence. Although all of the Abstract Expressionists have influenced my palette, my inner vision is a compilation of forms that grows like a new garden when nurtured with new ideas and inspiration. I work abstractly and figuratively. Working with the Nude and the Landscape thoroughly engage me to work without limits. In my cityscapes, I visualize a whole city exploding with elements of style. I compose it much like a musical score, so it flows and dances with ease. My mediums of choice are oil paint, charcoal, water color and even clay. Interestingly, my work has become more sculptural through the years and it shows in the materials I use.

Ultimately, my style has evolved to become a series of abstract and representational images. Each piece is part of a larger canvas that advances my painting style. My art fits together like a puzzle. I produce art in my self-categorized style of 'paraserialism'—my paintings live together in a continual context or series. I ask to put technology aside to let the art in everyone flow—keeping the sensitive nature alive that we all possess. My hope is my art will encourage others to keep this vision alive.
