The Annual E.A.S.T. Austin Studio Tour 2009 is upon us. Artmuse.com is proud to be a sponsor of E.A.S.T. this year. It is our official premiere of artmuse.com. Yay! There are so many exciting Artist Studios to visit.
First I will actually head West to Terrell Powell’s Fall Home Show to check out his latest and greatest Art pieces. Then I will start my trek over to the eastside and try to see as much art as possible. Thankfully, EAST is organized and created a Google map to use. This year EAST is two weekends and there’s more time to see it all. Here are the studios I know I will visit:
Judy Paul at Flatbed Press: Judy’s work is interwoven and layered with imagery including birds, flowers, ghostly remnants, sketches, and more. She manages to balance of complex imagery with broad forms and shapes.
Jennifer Chenoweth of Fisterra Studio: Jennifer’s 102-year old house and studio have been part of the East Austin Studio Tour since its inception in 2003. Her paintings and sculptures are abstract and conceptual. She pursues a philosophical inquiry between becoming and being.
Caroline Wright: I first saw Caroline’s work at EAST 2008 and was mesmerized by her Migration series. Her use of watercolor and ink to develop a simple complexity were beautiful. I look forward to what she has this year.
Sharon Kyle Kuhn: At EAST 2008 I was pleasantly surprised to discover Sharon’s encaustic paintings. Her method and style are beautiful. She captures discarded items in the wax and allows the viewer to rediscover them in unusual ways.
